Seeing the Light

And saying it! Among Banana's growing vocabulary, "light" is a favorite word. He not only repeats it over and over, but he wants to interact with it! Whether it's turning light switches off and on, or clicking a flashlight off and on, he is utterly fascinated with lights. Last night, when BW and I got tired of holding him so that he could turn the dining room or den light off and on, BW pulled out this flashlight. After we realized that it had occupied him very well for nearly an hour, we wondered why we hadn't thought of it before!

Brilliant! I used to pack a keychain flashlight in Sam's diaper bag for that magical ability to keep my kid occupied and quiet for long stretches of time. I'm not sure the other folks at church appreciated the franticly moving spot of light bouncing on walls, ceilings and heads. But it worked for me.
